Place Reference: Bring context back to places

Place discovery often starts with someone else’s point of view.

A café for rainy days.

A museum tip that changes your route.

A thread that tells you what to order, and what to skip.

It’s not just “where”. It’s the reason.

But the way we save those reasons is scattered.

Bookmarks, screenshots, notes, saved folders.

Then when you’re actually deciding, you open a place, not a pile of posts.

What you saved was content.

What you needed was a place.

Introducing Place Reference

Placify v1.5 introduces Place Reference, an upgrade to Import from Links.

Before, importing a link extracted the place.

Now it also keeps the why, with a direct path back to the source.

A Place Reference is reference material attached to a place: recommendations, tips, caveats, and context you’ll want later.

The flow is simple

  1. Copy a link.

A RedNote post, a thread, a blog, an article, anything shareable.

(Works best when the source includes clear text or descriptions.)

  2. Paste it into Placify.

  3. A Place Reference card appears on the place detail page, with a summary and a link back to the original.

Already saved the place?

Attach references to it too.

Multiple viewpoints, one place detail

Places rarely have one “truth”.

One post says a café is perfect for quiet work.

Another says it’s cramped, but the pastry is worth it.

A third warns the line gets long after 11.

Place Reference keeps these perspectives together on the same place page.

Skim the takeaways, then tap through when you want the full context.

More than a URL

Place Reference doesn’t just store a link.

It pulls out what tends to matter later:

  • highlights and recommendations

  • specific tips

  • constraints and caveats

  • key details worth keeping in context

It can also enrich Basic Info

Sometimes the source includes structured venue details, like opening hours, ratings, or basic place metadata.

When it’s available, Placify can convert it into Basic Info on the place.

Not only for travel

Most place decisions aren’t trips. They’re small curiosities.

Someone says, “Go at sunset.”

Someone else says, “Skip the main dish, order the sides.”

Another person warns, “It looks nice, but it’s always a line.”

That’s taste. That’s why you saved it.

Place Reference keeps it where you’ll actually use it.

What we’re building Placify for

Placify is your personal map for saved places, memories, and planning.

Bring places from anywhere into one map.

Add context like Place References and your own notes.

Then plan trips with everything already in place.

Available now in v1.5. Turn links into useful places.
